The Space and Fantasy Gamer's Guide is a 500 page index covering all board game and RPG related articles in all issues of the 1980's game magazines Space Gamer, Fantasy Gamer, Nexus, Ares, Interplay and The VIP of Gaming. This spiral-wire bound softcover is equally at home on your gaming table, coffee table, or mantlepiece.
Article Index: Over 4000 articles have been indexed and organized by game name and subject. Seven appendices cover non-game related articles such as book reviews, film reviews, video games, computer games, fiction, and play-by-mail games. An author index helps you track down articles by your favorite gamers.
Magazine Listings: The Guide contains an issue by issue publishing summary for each magazine. These lists cover featured articles as well as noting changes in staff or format. Recurring columns and features in each magazine are briefly described.
One of a Kind: There is no other resource available that provides you with the wealth of information contained in the Guide. It is an invaluable reference for players and collectors of old board games and RPGs. It is the fastest way to locate articles containing errata, variants, scenarios, reviews, and strategy articles for sci-fi and fantasy games from the 1980's.

ARES
"The Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy Simulation"
Ares was first published in 1980 by SPI. Each of the initial issues
contained a complete game. Content focused on SPI games and reviews
of space/fantasy games from all companies. Starting in 1983 the magazine was
published by TSR. Nineteen issues were published.
FANTASY GAMER
"The Magazine of Fantasy Gaming"
Fantasy Gamer was published by Steve Jackson Games from 1983 to 1984 as
a bi-monthly companion to The Space Gamer. Articles
covered the full spectrum of fantasy board and role-playing gaming.
Most issues contained either a complete adventure scenario
or board game. Six issues were published before the magazine was merged
back into The Space Gamer.
INTERPLAY
"The Metagamer Dialogues"
Interplay was a short lived publication from Metagaming that harkened
back to the original no-frills issues of The Space Gamer. Each issue
was chock full of information about Metagaming Microgames and The
Fantasy Trip RPG. Eight issues were published from 1981 to 1982.
NEXUS
"The Gaming Connection"
Nexus, the house-organ for Task Force Games, was first published in 1982.
The magazine focused almost exclusively on Task Force titles with
occasional reviews of games from other companies. Later issues are
packed with articles on the Starfire and Starfleet Battles game systems.
Eighteen issues were published.
THE SPACE GAMER
"The Magazine of Adventure Gaming"
The Space Gamer started as a 16-page digest sized publication first
published by Metagaming in 1975. Over the years it would grow into
a full-sized magazine and become the source for science-fiction
and fantasy gamers. Steve Jackson took over publication in 1980 and
things only got better. Seventy-six issues were published before the
magazine was sold to DTI in 1985.
SPACE GAMER - FANTASY GAMER
After leaving the capable hands of Steve Jackson and crew, Space Gamer
went through the several different hands. Twelve more issues were
published through 1990, most of which were painful reminders of
just how good the old Space Gamer used to be.
THE VIP OF GAMING
The Lost Space Gamer Issues
DTI first used the Space Gamer name for a section of their every-genre
gaming magazine The VIP of Gaming. I consider these the lost issues
of the Space Gamer series since they bridge the gap between the final Steve
Jackson Games issues and the Space Gamer - Fantasy Gamer issues. VIP
went RIP after five issues.
